Number 2 on YouTube in 48 Hours FREE! Pretty Picture for Art Client from BroadbandVideo.com

So for the YouTube nay-sayers (generally folks who own hosting companies as I once did) and the Ad-Words advocates (don’t get me wrong, ad words can provide a lift) here’s one for the record books: A short, promotional video placed on YouTube rose to the #2 position on three short keywords in 48 hours completely organically. For those of you who are not familiar with the term “organic” in reference to SEO on the web –it means FREE. This is how this stuff is supposed to work!

There are places where you can buy clicks, “black hat” SEO farms (generally outside the US) and all sorts of tricky things you can do to get your video found – so it’s really nice when, without gaming the system, and playing by the rules – the good stuff happens. Here’s what we did: we had just finished production of a short video explaining about an iPad App for a client. The video talks about the app capabilities, but also talks about the core services of her business. She didn’t have a channel on YouTube, so I told her to go make one (which she did) and then I uploaded the new video for her so I could control the title, paragraph description (and links) and keywords.

I uploaded the video, did my best titling, seo-friendly paragraph writing AND played a bunch with the keywords (especially being aware of the local nature of her business). I hit “save” and stepped back. The next day I went and typed in the following keywords as a generic (non-logged in) search on the #2 Search Engine in the world (YouTube): “lease art denver” – which I figured would be what people would be searching for considering she leases art in Denver. The video came in at the NUMBER TWO organic position. Normally, getting this kind of rank on YouTube would take all kinds of work – but this result was in 48 hours (less actually) and was 100% free for my client.

I’m going to try other keyword combinations, and then move on to Google itself and see when (or if) this same phenomena happens on the #1 Search Engine – but until then, it’s good to know that when you play the game right, good things can happen for SMBs without spending a lot of money.
